Working on it Wednesday – Learning Letters & link up

It’s another Working on it Wednesday, what have you been working on?

Working it Wednesday copy

I don’t know about other Mom’s of three year old kids, but I am ready for Owen to head off to pre-school this fall. We’re hoping to get him enrolled in a very awesome duel program in our city, but this particular program only has 23 seats open and they utilize a lotto system which mean we basically just cross our fingers until July when we find out if we made it or not. Everyone cross your fingers with me. Anyway, not wanting Owen to be behind any of his classmates we’ve been working hard on certain topics, fine motor skills etc.

Recently I saw on pinterest where someone had written the alphabet on a piece of paper and used small letter magnets to match them up. We can’t do anything little in this household so I had to blow the project up a bit. I used a $.50 piece of poster board from the dollar store then hand wrote in permanent marker the alphabet.

Owen Letters

Then together Owen and I sit down and take time to match up the letters going over what each one is named before putting down the corresponding letter. I try to keep activities to four minutes or less when they involve learning (the amount of time most research says kids his age can focus on a given task) and so far we’ve had a lot of success with it.

So now it’s your turn to share….

Working on it Wednesday – Gallery Wall Additions & Link up

I don’t craft as much in the winter but I’m trying to get a few last minute projects done before it gets warm and I start spring cleaning.

This weeks project; adding to our gallery wall. I’ve wanted to add this piece for months but couldn’t find just the right option. I finally came up with something I like and went ahead and had Matt hang it up this weekend. I don’t love the placement but until we move and redo this picture wall it will have to stay.

So can you find the addition?

Did you find it?

I added a duel bell alarm clock hanging from a hook on the upper left hand corner of our wall. The clock is set 9:23, the time that our son was born and since most of our wall is pictures of him it seemed very fitting.

Our clock is from Ikea but if you’d like do to something similar you can find quite a few options on amazon. Here are a few of my favorites. Just click on their image to be taken to a page to purchase.

Working on it Wednesday 8-28-13

It has been hot in Michigan the last few days. Rainy hot and humid. While I hate the cold the most and normally love warm temperatures, I do not enjoy getting all sweaty just by going outside to grab the mail. It’s suppose to be like this for the rest of the week so I think we’ll just stay inside as much as we can.

Thankfully I have quite a few little projects that have been completed over the last few weeks to share that the missed days of outside project time won’t be a big deal. We should have spray paint weather until October-ish so I’ll have time to catch up.

I’m not yet sure what I to share next week, but I’m thinking it might be all the pain and heart ache this lamp caused me over the last month.

shelves 133Until I figure out what I am going to write about you can take some time to view yesterdays tutorial on Repainting a Plastic Play House and/or link up to today’s linky. It’s a great way to get more viewers to your blog as I will once again highlight the first five responders this weekend!

Working on it Wednesday 7-10-13

We’ve been doing quite a few projects around the house the last few weeks and I’m currently finishing one up today. If you follow us on instagram @meganatplay then you’ve had a few sneak peeks of what’s to come. This week though I’ll show you one of our projects last weekend, our new sink.

shelves 124My old sink was a cast iron and porcelain country sink. I hated it. It was impossible to keep clean, most things stained it and you had to have it resurfaced to restore the white. I like things to shine so for a nut job like me it was constantly driving me insane. I know some of you out there will say I’m crazy for getting rid of it, but after four years it had to go. Don’t mind all the sink clutter, this picture was mid project when I remembered we hadn’t taken a picture yet.

shelves 128This is our brand new nice and shiny sink. I’ve already spilled paint on it (from my current DIY) and it was super easy to clean up so unlike the old sink which would have had permanent paint damage after an accidental dripping of that nature. We also installed a new toilet in our main bathroom but I’m sparing you pictures of that. You can thank me later. :)

What have you been up to the last week, feel free to share your current projects in the Mr. Linky below.

Working on it Wednesday 6/25/13

I’ve had a few projects in the works this week and we have a busy weekend planned with lots of plumbing work. I’ll take pictures.

Until then here is an update on the lamp I purchased a few weeks ago. I’m painting it a “dusty purple” which will match an upcoming project. I’m only one coat in and it’s been a mess. It was horrible to paint the details and my primer coat kept chipping off (not a good sign I assume). I’m not giving up yet, hopefully I can get a second coat in this weekend and see how it looks.

lampIn other awesome news my copies of Zoomigurumi and Zoomigurumi 2 arrived. I love all the patterns, but especially the ones in the second book. Owen saw the covers and has already told me repeatedly that he is waiting for me to make him a turtle friend; I guess I need to get on that too. :)

Working on it Wednesday 6/12/13

Alright guys, last week was dismal when it comes to link ups. It’s been suggested that I give up on this whole $10 giveaway for 15 participants and just move on, but I’m not willing to yet. So we’re offering it up again. If we can get 15 people to link up to today’s link up by Thursday (6/13/13) we’ll give one person a $10 gift card to either JoAnns or Michaels, winners choice.

JOanngiveaway

To add even more incentive for those readers who do not have blogs and are unable to link up we’re offering a few more opportunities to enter the giveaway. But remember we must receive 15 people who link up before there is a giveaway so make sure and share this with your friends and other bloggers out there.

Before we get to all the giveaway entries I want to highlight last weeks linker, Cogaroo Crafts who linked up to her Bunny Drop post. It’s a great idea that will leave someone smiling so make sure to check it out.

Now on to the linking…

Working on it Wednesday 6/5/13 – and Giveaway

Remember if we hit 15 link ups between today and tomorrow 6/5/13 one of the lucky linkers will win a $10 gift card to JoAnn. Make sure after you finish linking up your post that you share this giveaway with friends so we’ll be sure to get enough participants.

It’s been quite a hecktic week for us as our floors are still pretty sticky. We’ve moved back the big furniture in the living room and are trying to stay off them as much as possible. So this week I’ll be highlighting a WILL be working on it post.

I did take a mini break this weekend and did some retail therapy. I do mine in at the thrift store since I find it to be much cheaper than the mall. I scored this metal lamp for $10. It’s the perfect piece to sit next to my chair upstairs for extra light when crocheting or reading. IMG_0632I love the detail and designs. But, the color has to go. I’m not quite sure what color we’ll be painting yet, but I have a few colorful spray paint bottles sitting in the garage so we’ll see what shade it ends up.

I’m making the deal again if we can get ten different people/sites to link up to a post on today’s link up we’ll do a small give away next week. Remember Wednesday post don’t need to be necessarily crafty related. Let us see your wordless Wednesday post, a new recipe, and of course crafts, crochet, and knitting always accepted.

This week I am working on packing. No we aren’t moving… unfortunately. I’m clearing out our living room so we can redo our hardwood floors this weekend. Isn’t that how everyone wants to spend their Memorial Day weekend?

It’s Wednesday again. Matt is on the mend so I’ve left him at home with the baby and I am off for a fun filled day at the Shipshewana auction barn.
I’ll make sure and get a full write up done by this weekend but tomorrow you can follow along on our instagram page to see how the day is going. I’m hoping to find lots of treasures to bring home with me.

Working on it Wednesday 5/8/13

It’s Wednesday, time for another link up!

It’s been a little slow online for us the last few days as we are taking care of some things around the house. Matt will be having minor surgery tomorrow and be out of commission for a few days. I’ve been trying to get everything done that I can which means I’m behind on email. There is good new though; come Friday and Saturday Matt will be basically stuck in his chair so I plan to provide him with a lap top and lots of time to make improvements to the sites.  :)  I’ll also be keeping him company in the living room finally answering all my emails and entering the huge list of links into all three databases. Check for lots of new links this weekend! We’ll also hopefully get the giveaway page up and running where bloggers can list all the giveaways they are offering, it depends on how Matt feels once he’s home.

Alright, on to what has been happening around here.

It’s been very nice out so Owen and B.P. were able to play outside. We also finished up our Mother’s Day gifts (fail tutorial coming soon) and made up some gift wrap for them.

Since I sell Usborne books I get boxes not only full of books but brown paper too.  Rather than recycle them i’ve been saving sheets to let Owen color and paint on them. They make great gift wrap for family. Here are his two Mother’s Day creations.
